This collection takes an unusual approach to change the conversation about color photography by purposely damaging the film's integrity by malicious push-processing of the underexposed color negative film. The film's reaction to this misuse is to bring a tonal range of color unique to each type of C-41 film. By understanding the reaction of each different type of C-41 film and their tonal range of colors, I decide the final color palette of each scene by film selection and the exposure range chosen to recorded the moment. This uniquely photographic process and results, celebrates the art and science of film base photography. These images are a curated selection from the larger collection.
By deconstructing the scene with other worldly colors, and the use of selective focus and unusual angles, the scene challenges the viewer with a psychological assault of color and detail. As the image is viewed, the underlying damage film structure is revealed. By working with in the boundaries of these defects, it produce a result that could only be done when purposely misusing C-41 type film. The effects show the beauty of film photography by taking the color film to it's breaking point and see what it reveals about the photographic color film structure.
